“What is Fitness” is the title of the free CrossFit Journal Article that you can get by clicking the “CrossFit Journal Free Issue” button on our main page, or by following this link. If you have never read this or haven’t read it in a while it’s worth your time. When this article was written in the fall of 2002 CrossFit existed only as a website and a small box (gym) in Santa Cruz California run by Greg and Lauren Glassman. Today there are more than 1500 CrossFit boxes worldwide all equipped with websites of their own. Though CrossFit has, and continues to, grown rapidly with its expansion largely the result of it’s product (the athlete), the content of this article still shines true for what CrossFit is about.
World Class Fitness in 100 Words:
Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense.
