What a Great Long Weekend: CF Games, Squamish Logger’s Sports

1. Weather: Boom! Finally some sun. Hot, but not too hot.

2. Extra day off: For most people 🙂

3. 2011 CrossFit Games: 72 hours after it all began on the beach in Santa Monica, it’s over. Rich Froning Jr. and Annie Thorisdottir head home a quarter million dollars richer and everyone gets a badass notch in their belts. Out of BC, Angie Pye ended up 10th overall with two second place finishes. Alicia Connors (awesome as always) finished 35th, while Lucas Parker placed 26th and Jeremy Meredith finished in 45th place. In the Teams division, CrossFit Vancouver finished in a solid 19th place while Team Taranis absolutely crushed in closing the gap on first and earning a podium place in a crazy finish. If you missed the team finals yesterday check them out, best show of the weekend. In any case, solid performances by all athletes and a bit of a gun show. 364 days until next year!

4. Loggers Sports: Congrats to: John the Gambler, Laura, Fern, Paul, Cliff, Andrew, Danica, Ellen, Adrian, and KJ. Everyone performed very well and I suspect exceeded their expectations. If you didn’t make it down there to see it this weekend I don’t even know where to start to do justice to the experience we all had. That said, if you did make it down and have photos or video please email them to me or burn them onto disk and bring them into the gym. I’ll built up a album on Photobucket and maybe see if I can load up some of the video. Double Shutter has posted up the photos they took of the weekend here.

Notable Results (I hope I haven’t left anyone out or buggered this up):

John the Gambler: 4th on Chokerman’s Race (33:46), 14 pts on the Casino Axe Throw (1st round)
Laura: 4th in Jill and Jill Double Buck (she filled in last minute for someone and learned on the spot)
Paul: 13 pts on the Axe Throw (came the closest of any of us to qualifying for the main show)
Jesse: 1st in Chokerman’s Race (26:26)

And almost everyone won at least one round in the Birling. Overall pretty impressive for 6 training sessions (max) over a bunch of weeks. Next event in Campbell River this weekend then a CrossFit Timber Sports event later in the month (more info to follow).

Summer here we go,
