Having a hot bath with Epsom Salts is a really great part of recovery. I realize that some of you may not “fit” in the tub too well, and some of you have no interest in having a bath regardless of its benefits (some sort of image with candles and soft music doesn’t appeal hey?)

Here are a few interesting things about Epsom Salts:

– Epsom Salts are hydrated magnesium sulfate
– Magnesium is the 2nd most abundant element in Human cells
– Magnesium plays an important roll in muscle control, electrical impulses, energy production and release of toxins
– Changes in agriculture have affected how much magnesium we obtain in our diet
– Calcium functions best with Magnesium (some studies show that North American’s have a ratio of 5:1 Calcium to Magnesium when it should be 2:1)
– Studies have shown that enhanced absorption through the skin greatly assists the bodies overall ability to absorb Magnesium
– Sulfates play a role in the formation of brain tissue and joint proteins

General effects of Epsom Salts are:

1. Improved ability of the body to use insulin
2. Flushes toxins and heavy metals from the cells relieving muscle pain
3. Improved electrolyte function
4. Reduced inflammation
5. And let’s be honest….a good hot bath is a pretty good stress reliever
