She didn’t invent it, but she sure impressed me when she said she made her own (I’m easily impressed by domestic tasks)!
Here is the recipe and recommendations:
“* 4 cups water
* 1 large ginger thumb (peeled & sliced)
* 1×3″ cinnamon stick
* 6 cloves
* 10 cardamom pods, crushed
* 1/2 t black peppercorn
* 3 tea bags, Assam or orange pekoe
* 2 Tbsps honey
* 1 1/2 cups milk, soy or rice (paleo peeps can sub in almond or coconut?).
Place water & spices in a pot & bring to a boil.
Partly cover & simmer for 30 min.
Strain the mixture; discard the solids & return liquid to pot.
Add tea bags & steep for 5 min.
Remove tea bags, & add honey & milk
Reheat & serve.
This recipe doubles nicely.
I even quadrupled it for a larger crowd.
I use decaf orange pekoe, because I often serve it in the afternoon or evening. Fresh economical Indian spices can be found at Save On Foods.
