Just as an FYI… any memberships purchased BEFORE (not on) May 1st are exempt from HST. This includes 3, 6 and 12 month memberships. On or after May 1st any membership purchased that extends beyond July 1st will be subject to HST. This is where it gets a little confusing. If 90% of the membership time falls after July 1st the full price is subject to HST. If the bulk of it is before July 1st, we have to prorate the whole thing so part of the membership is just GST and the other part is HST (how ridiculous does that seem?!?). Essentially every day from May 1st to July 1st, the 3,6 and 12 month passes will get incrementally more expensive. This is going to make it impossible for me to configure the online payment system for those types of passes in that 2 month period… So here is what we are asking you to do… If you are thinking of buying a 3, 6 or 12 month pass BUY IT BY APRIL 30. We will be temporarily taking those offline from May 1 to July 1st when it stabilizes again. You will still be able to buy one in the gym, it will just require a little calculating. If you are a 1 month at a time person, don’t worry, you are all good. Autorenewing memberships continue as only GST until the first payment in July at which point they become subject to HST.
If you have any questions about where you are at and what you should do, email me and we can try to figure out what is best for you. The people that this will be the most confusing for are the 3 month’rs i think.
Thanks Craig for bringing this all to my attention!
