This has most likely elicited one of two responses from you depending on if you grew up in Ontario or not: “Why does everyone talk about camp so much?”, or “OMG, I LOVE/MISS camp”.
I’ve decided that as part of my plan to drag us all as happily as possible through the next Squamish “winter”, I am going to plan at least one gym event type thingy per month. Mexico is obviously one of them, the Christmas dinner, there has been talk of other meaty feast type events, ski days on Whistler etc. But I want to kick start it with a fun one while the weather is still nice.
Parky and Daphne have offered to open up Camp Summit (in the Squamish Valley) to us for the weekend of September 28-30th. Parky’s camp origins are in Ontario (we even have mutual camp connections from there!) and he has brought the amazing Ontario camp experience and created it in BC at Camp Summit. I went to an amazing camp growing up and I believe an experience like that shapes who we are. I am extremely nostalgic for the whole experience and have many times as an adult complained that I wish I could go back. For those of you who never went, think: away from your parents, hanging out with friends from different places, eating in a giant dinning hall and all the songs and games that go with it, more activities than you could ever imagine including lots that challenge what you think you are capable of, bonfires, staying up late chatting in cabins, and giant group games like survival and capture the flag. It’s pretty much amazing.
Parky and I want to create that experience for members of CrossFit Squamish and their families. All info is posted on the poster at the gym but the general itinerary is to arrive Friday night for snacks and getting organized in your cabin, Saturday morning breakfast, WOD (this is where the official gym wod will be that Saturday morning regardless if you are staying for the weekend or not), activities, lunch, more activities and maybe some surprise wods (for the little ones too), dinner, bonfire, cabin time, Sunday morning activities and brunch, pack-up and leave. It’s an all inclusive weekend. Food will be mostly paleo friendly with a few classic camp items in there that just have to slip through the paleo cracks. There are large cabins so if you want your family all in one, or with another family that is possible. You can also just buddy up with a bunch of people and make a cabin group…. or you can leave it up to us if you want the true camp experience 😉 For those of you who can’t make it out for the Friday night there will be a Saturday night only option too. Though I strongly encourage you to come Friday if you can so that you have the full day experience out there.
If you were already interested in knowing more about Camp Summit for your kids this is a great way to check it out.
COST: Adults $145+HST all inclusive, Kids (3-17 years old) $115+HST all inclusive (Saturday night only option: Adults $125, Children $95)
Registration (forms are at the gym or I can email you one) and payment are due Friday, September 21st. I have loaded up an Adult and Child option for pricing in Mindbody so that you can pay by credit card. For example, if you are a member and purchasing for your spouse and 2 kids, you can just purchase 2 adult weekends and 2 kid weekends on your credit card. If you purchase them online please email me to let me know how many you purchased and who they are for. You can also pay by debit, cash or cheque in the gym.
This is a really wicked opportunity and SO FUN. Let me know if you have any questions (don’t ask Jesse…. he’s as green as they get when it comes to camp), or ask Parky, Daphne or Vanessa if you see them in the gym.
